Remembering John Wynn

Following the passing of John Wynn earlier this year, the Rotary Club of Ocean Grove wants to publicly recall and acknowledge his contribution to our Club and our Community.

John’s connection with Ocean Grove stretched back to 1945, when he arrived as a young child. In the interview below, recorded by Club Member Ann Hodgkinson in September 2020, John recalls the early days of the town and the contribution made by his family to its post-war development.

A particularly important part of that story was the family’s migrant hostel, which became home to many newly arrived European families who worked in Geelong and helped shape the growing Ocean Grove community. Their legacy remains in the town to this day.

John also reflects on the strong tradition of volunteerism that built many of Ocean Grove’s community facilities, a tradition he continued through organisations including Rotary.

The interview is a valuable record of both John’s life and the history of Ocean Grove.

We remember John with deep gratitude for his contribution.
